Lately, I have been hoarding toners. I am in full-on "7-Skin Method" mode so I am going through toners like nobody's business. I can use up a 100 ml one in a week, so my stash of alcohol-free, gentle toners is slowly depleting. This has made me reevaluate on what I toners I buy, looking for milder and natural ingredients.

For today, I have The Face Shop's Rice Ceramide Moisturizing Toner. I bought this one weeks ago from Althea, back when it was still cheaper (they have increased the price since) and I had a 10% off coupon.

Description (from website):
Not your usual, standard, run-of-the-mill toner, The Face Shop’s Rice Ceramide Moisture Toner has a thicker, richer consistency that’s reminiscent of a lightweight emulsion or an essence that’s great for drier days. Enriched with rice and ceramide extracts, this toner is superb at moisturizing the skin and prepping it for your skincare regime, making sure it stays soft and supple throughout the day. To top it all off, we just love the scent of this product too.

I didn't read the description (nor have I done any research) well enough because when I opened this toner, I was surprised of it's thicker consistency. Most toners have watery consistency, while this one is more gel-like and similar to a "lotion." I guess this is where the moisturizing effect comes from since the "heavier" formula will be able to deliver more moisture to the skin.

I may be able to overlook the thicker consistency (since it can actually be beneficial for those with drier skins) but what put me off completely with this toner is the overwhelming smell. This toner is heavily fragranced, so much so that it can quality this as perfume. Why, The Face Shop, why? I get that some people like their skin care to smell good but adding artificial scents to beauty products is (IMHO) unnecessary. They can cause allergic reactions and actually contradict what it aims to do.

I stopped using this after a couple of uses. I will say that this toner is very moisturizing, owing to the thicker consistency. It was also easily absorbed but it did feel a bit heavy on my oilier skin. I will say that this would be good for drier skins in need of moisture. I can maybe use this during the colder months but for summer, this feels too heavy on. I'm considering using this as a light "lotion" for my body (and away from my nose) as I don't smell it as much. Even with the dirt-cheap price, this toner is a major dud for me. (sad face)
