For the first time in history, a major awards show will be shown exclusively online. The 41st edition of the Daytime Emmy Awards will not be broadcasted on TV after organizers and several cable companies fail to strike a deal. Instead, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has decided to stream the awards ceremonies on its official website.

This is somehow a very bold move, foregoing the long-tradition of a TV broadcast in favor of a online live streaming. Can it be that the tides are really changing and the power of social media has taken over all of us?

Awards will be handed out in 25 categories, including several new ones, with Kathy Griffin hosting the exclusive online event. The academy hopes to attract more worldwide fans through social media sites such as YouTube, Facebook, Google Hangout, Twitter, Vine and Instagram. Will you be tuning in?
