MAC Lip Pencil in Heroine

Hey there guys. New week, new review. I did a bunch of pictures last week and over the weekend so I have several products lined up for reviews this week. Yey. This week is unofficially MAC week as I'll be reviewing MAC products.

First up is a lip pencil in the shade Heroine. This pencil was part of the MAC Fashion Lover kit that I bought eons ago. While I love lipsticks, I haven't really got into lip pencils and the few that I have bought just get relegated in the corner, forgotten.

Heroine is described as a "bright purple." This color is a medium, brightened magenta purple with a matte finish and warm undertones. I don't often wear this kind of purple as it's very statement-ly and attract lots of attention. Come to think of it, any kind of purple lips would naturally get some looks.

The formula of this pencil is smooth and velvety. I would expect any lip pencil to be harder to apply vs lipsticks. MAC claims a "creamy formula" for their pencils and I did find this to be creamier compared to the pencils that I have used in the past. However, it still has a tendency to pull and drag on the lips.

This applied evenly and had good pigmentation and almost opaque coverage. I was able to get full coverage with a single layer. The color stayed put for up to seven hours and I didn't notice any bleeding or feathering. The pencil did cling on my dry patches so I would recommend a good exfoliation before applying this. I also found it more comfortable and less drying if I apply a balm beforehand.

I do appreciate that this pencil is convenient and I'm able to apply it precisely. However, at $17.50 a pop, it's a tad more expensive than a MAC lipstick ($17). I am hesitant to buy a pencil that needs to be sharpened (more product wastage) and with less product in it (1.45g vs 3g).
