To cap off this week of Colourpop lipsticks is this one which have a new(ish) formula called Ultra Satin. How does this compare vs their original matte ones? The Ultra Satin is touted as having a lightweight, highly pigmented, and non drying formula. Colourpop also emphasizes that they will not be transfer-proof.

I only bought one shade because I was not yet sure if I'd like the new formula or not. I have Dopey, which is described as "a dusty mauve." This color initially sold out very fast when they first launched so I ordered it as soon as it restocked. I have been drawn to this kind of shades lately, the mauvey nude ones that is all the rages. To be honest, I'm not particularly sure if I do like the shade as I feel that they don't translate well on my lips and look purplish most of the time. My stubborn side, though, refuses to give up so I end up will various shades of mauves (Lumiere, Lumiere 2) that I don't really wear as often as I should be.

When swatched on my arms and lips, Dopey is a medium pinky mauve with some grey undertones. I think the grey in it mutes the purple tone so I'm more comfortable wearing this as a nude-ish everyday shade. As described, the mousey cream liquid does not completely dry down to a flat matte, so you have time to draw more precise lines and make your pout look perfect and well, pouty.

The new creamy formula makes it very easy to apply and spread across the lips without any bleeding nor settling into lip lines. Pigmentation is still great, with full and opaque coverage with just one sweep of color. I noticed a slight sheen finish when it's freshly applied but after an hour or so it dried down to a semi-matte (with no sheen and shine). While this may look matte, it's not true flat (dry) matte since it transfers on anything that your lips will come into contact.

While not completely transfer-proof, this is pretty much budge- and smudge-proof. Even with a full meal, the product will stay put on your lips. In addition to the long-lasting formula, this feels very comfortable on the lips. It's lightweight and non-drying. I definitely prefer the Ultra Satin formula over the Ultra Matte ones. This hits the sweet spot of a matte finish, without it being overly drying on the lips. The more satiny texture means that you will avoid any flaking and settling.
